Gas-setting binders for core production

Benefits of sodium silicate binders
  • No odour emissions
  • No harzadous emissions like BTX
  • No VOC emissions
  • No nitrogen, sulphur or phosphorus content
  • No expansion defects like veining during the casting process
  • High resistance to hot tearing

CARSIL and SOLOSIL sodium silicate binder systems

CARSIL is a range of sodium silicate binders suitable for both moulds and cores which fulfill highest demands on reclamation, mixed sand bench-life and final strength properties.

SOLOSIL is a range of low viscosity, high performance, sodium silicate binders with advanced breakdown agents. They are used as a one-shot addition and hardened by CO2.

ECOLOTEC water based resole CO2 process

The ECOLOTEC process is based on the use of a watersoluble phenolic resin, condensed under alkaline conditions. The resin is the only binder component that has to be mixed with the sand. The resin does not contain any nitrogen, phosphorus or sulphur.

The ECOLOTEC process is the most environmentally friendly gas cured organic binder process available in the market and offers significant environmental benefits compared to other core manufacturing processes:

The ECOLOTEC process eliminates casting defects related to sand expansion, such as veining. Anti-veining additives and coatings are usually not required to obtain sound castings.

ECOLOTEC with lignin

With growing environmental concerns about fossil fuels and phenol-based petrochemicals, researchers are focusing on renewable alternatives to phenol-based binders. Biopolymers, such as lignin from the pulp and paper industry, are a viable option. We've developed a biopolymer binder based on our ECOLOTEC concept for foundries. It provides strong cores with precise dimensions and surfaces. Castings from these cores are strong and accurate, with surface quality comparable to that of conventionally produced components using fossil fuel-based binders.

POLITEC polyurethane cold box binders

The need for cold box binder technology that delivers higher productivity and improved casting quality with reduced environmental impact has lead to the development of a range of high performance POLITEC binders, for use in ferrous and non-ferrous foundries. The POLITEC range of binders which offer excellent core strength, ensuring consistent production of even the most complicated cores with reliable dimensional accuracy. To meet the most stringent technical and environmental requirements a range of cold box binders which contain non-aromatic solvents have been developed. These products provide a significant reduction in both the odour and the emissions released during the casting process.

The bonded core is very stable, allowing for the use of water-based coatings without degradation. The high reactivity of the products ensures amine consumption is minimised, whilst reducing gassing times and improving productivity. Viscosity of the products is optimised to provide improved sand flowability, whilst reducing resin wipe-off and core sticking.
